NDLEA BUSTS MULTI-BILLION-NAIRA DRUG SYNDICATES, SEIZES COCAINE, CANADIAN LOUD AND OPIOIDS WORTH OVER ₦10 BILLION

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its' nationwide offensive against drug trafficking with the interception of cocaine, Canadian Loud and opioid consignments worth more than ₦10 billion, while also dismantling multiple trafficking syndicates and recovering military-grade ammunition during coordinated operations across Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina and Edo states.

In a statement released by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the Agency said the operations reflect the sustained intelligence-driven strategy of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), whose leadership continues to strengthen the Agency's efforts to disrupt organized drug trafficking networks and safeguard Nigeria's borders.
One of the major breakthroughs led to the arrest of Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, a 55-year-old clothing merchant at Balogun Market, Lagos Island, over an attempt to export 3.30 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside the walls of food cartons destined for the United Kingdom. The cocaine shipment was intercepted at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport before investigators traced the operation to the suspect.
The investigation initially resulted in the arrest of three cargo agents—Nkwor Onyekachukwu Justina, Adeleke Abiola Taoheed and Ukanwa Grace Pilgrim as well as Kenneth Okakpu, who delivered the consignment for shipment. Their interrogation eventually led operatives to Onuigbo, who was arrested while allegedly preparing another cocaine shipment to the UK.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers arrested Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo, a 31-year-old entrepreneur, at her Surulere residence after intercepting 2.80 kilograms of Canadian Loud that arrived from the United States aboard a United Airlines flight.
At the Lagos airport cargo terminal, intelligence-led operations also led to the recovery of 2.24 million pills of Tapentadol 250mg, valued at more than ₦2.2 billion, from a shipment that arrived from India aboard an Air Maroc flight. The seizure followed another successful interception of a tramadol consignment concealed inside containers of black soap destined for the United Kingdom through a courier company.

Meanwhile, at the Apapa Seaport, NDLEA operatives, working alongside other security agencies, uncovered 2,388.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, concealed inside three imported vehicles packed in a shipping container. The illicit consignment, consisting of 4,777 sachets, has an estimated street value exceeding ₦7.1 billion.

Beyond drug seizures, NDLEA officers intercepted 401 rounds of military-grade ammunition during separate operations in Katsina and Kaduna states. Mustapha Sani, 30, was arrested in Katsina with 323 rounds of ammunition, while Abubakar Amadu, 30, was apprehended along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway with 73 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside kegs of palm oil. Both suspects and the recovered ammunition have been transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
In Edo State, raids on a warehouse in Ilushi Community, Esan South East Local Government Area, resulted in the seizure of 1,286 kilograms of cannabis and 86 kilograms of cannabis seeds. Operatives also arrested Ojore Onweze, 45, with 60 kilograms of skunk, while George Agwumede, 30, was found in possession of 13 kilograms of the same substance.

Alongside its' enforcement activities, the Agency sustained its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign with sensitization programmes held in schools and communities across Niger, Kano and Lagos states to strengthen public awareness and drug prevention efforts.
Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), MMIA, Apapa, Edo, Kaduna and Katsina Commands for the successful operations. He urged personnel nationwide to sustain the Agency's balanced strategy of aggressive drug supply reduction alongside continuous public education and prevention initiatives.
