Two Nigerian men living in Europe have been arrested at Abuja airport after swallowing 200 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.46kg in an attempt to smuggle the drug to Paris, France. The arrests were part of nationwide operations in which the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized large consignments of cannabis and pharmaceutical opioids and intercepted a woman carrying 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.

In a statement released by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA said Aliocus Godian Odife and Sam Blackborn were arrested on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, during the outward clearance of Air France flight AF 832 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Body scans confirmed that both men had swallowed cocaine wraps.

Odife, who reportedly works in a factory in France, had arrived in Nigeria on October 21 for a short holiday. He excreted 110 wraps weighing 1.901kg, while Blackborn excreted 90 wraps weighing 1.559kg. The agency said all 200 wraps tested positive for cocaine.

In Lagos, officers intercepted a Volkswagen LT 28 bus along Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, on October 25, recovering 537kg of skunk cannabis. Another 439kg was seized the same day from a brown J5 bus along the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway.

In Oyo State, Oguntona Nasiru, 46, and Soji Balogun, 47, were arrested on October 29 while loading 554kg of skunk into a Volvo truck along Idere Road, Igboora. The operation targeted a suspected drug dealer known as Omo Oba, who had escaped arrest on October 25 when officers seized 309.5kg of Ghanaian Loud allegedly linked to him.

Kano operations yielded 247,500 diazepam tablets weighing 57.7kg and 100,000 Exol-5 tablets weighing 38.7kg in Tsamiya, Gezawa, on October 26. On October 28, officers arrested Ziya'ulhaq Abdullahi, 35, and Garba Muhammed, 52, in Dorayi with 19,250 tramadol 225mg pills weighing 13.6kg.

Along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, NDLEA operatives arrested Aisha Isah with 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition. On the Zaria-Kano Expressway, officers arrested 68-year-old Ifeanyi Egwolonwu at Gwargwaje, Zaria, with 2,770 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 100 ampoules of diazepam injection, 11,000 diazepam tablets and 4,500 Exol-5 tablets. A separate raid in Tashan Banke led to seven arrests, including Faisal Adamu, and the recovery of 178.85kg of cannabis, alongside diazepam, tramadol, Exol-5 and pregabalin.

In Ondo State, officers arrested four suspects, including Bassey Okon, 24, Abraham Edet, 20, and Oto Udo, 24, during a raid on cannabis farms in Ijare Forest on October 25. Sixteen bags of processed cannabis weighing 180kg were recovered.

In Edo State, NDLEA operatives supported by soldiers destroyed a 1.646-hectare cannabis plantation at Eko Camp, Ilushi, Esan South East Local Government Area, on October 28. The farm had an estimated yield of 4,115.53kg. Officers arrested Christiana Uboi, 50, with 301kg of processed cannabis and recovered another 176kg during the operation. In Sokoto, Ibrahim Ayuba, 68, was arrested on October 31 with 236.6kg of skunk.

The agency also continued its' War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, conducting awareness programmes at Obawole Grammar School II in Ojodu, Lagos; Nsukka High School in Enugu State; Government Technical College, Dorayi Babba Rijiyar Zaki, Kano State; and Ajagbe Comprehensive High School, Iperu, Ogun State, among other locations.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers of the Abuja airport, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Ondo, Oyo and Edo commands for the arrests and seizures. He warned that Nigerians living abroad would not escape scrutiny if they attempted to use their overseas residence as cover for drug trafficking.

Marwa urged officers nationwide to sustain operations against drug cartels while continuing prevention and public awareness programmes in schools, religious centres, workplaces and communities.
